Day 31: Clinic by the Bay

Access to healthcare is one of those big topics.  Probably one that you wouldn't want to just casually bring up, just in case there might be a venomous opinion that may lead into a never-ending debate.  Yikes.   Yet affordable and easy access to a medical professional, to help when an illness avails itself upon you, is something that everyone wants and needs.

A small clinic in San Francisco, Clinic by the Bay, opened it's doors yesterday.  They are providing medical assistance to the working uninsured...at no cost.  How?  By staffing the clinic with retired doctors, nurses, and therapists, who are coming out of retirement to donate their time and talents in service.  And the medical help given isn't just a simple screen, but is a comprehensive coordinated care including preventative care, primary care, assistance with prescription medications, and dental and mental health screenings.  Their mission is "to understand and serve, with dignity and respect, the health and wellness needs of the medically underserved in the San Francisco Bay Area.  Additionally, our goal is to enhance the lives of the volunteers who contribute to the care and wellness of our community as a whole."

Congratulations on your grand opening, Clinic by the Bay!  Well wishes in striving to meet the many needs of those who walk through your doors.
